Safety & Security

At DuPage Airport, 24-hour security patrols and a fully fenced airfield are just two of the numerous precautionary measures we have initiated.  Because safety and security is at the top of our list, we are progressive in our planning for a safe airfield.

  • 24-hour FAA control tower funded by the airport authority to remain open around-the-clock

    • Local Control:         120.9

    • Ground Control:      121.8

    • Clearance Delivery: 119.75

    • ATIS:                     124.8

  • Aircraft rescue fire fighting vehicle dedicated to the airfield

  • West Chicago Fire Station on site

  • 24-hour security patrols

  • Fenced airfield

  • Secured airport operations area

  • Access control and surveillance

  • Airfield-dedicated snow removal team

  • Full-time staff member dedicated to safety and security on airfield

  • Runway safety program and action team

  • All airport authority employees undergo training and certification in First Aid, CPR,  and on site AED (Automatic External Defibrillators)

  • Strategic alliances with law enforcement, public safety, and other first responders

  • Comprehensive wildlife management program supplemented by an additional program that gains control over bird and coyote populations

  • Predominantly open space approaches to our north/south runways (including farmland and a golf course)  To the east and west is low-density commercial development

  • Aviation Surface Weather Observation Network systems (ASWON) sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Weather Service (NWS), and the Department of Defense (DOD) include:

    • Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS) to ensure accurate surface condition reports 24-hours a day.  Call (630) 584-2728 for a current report any time, day or night

    • FAA Stand Alone Weather Sensors (SAWS) back up the ASOS.  The sensor suite in SAWS provides additional critical information to our Air Traffic Controllers

    • The Scan Cast monitoring system on our runways and taxiways combats ice during the winter months.  Pavement conditions are monitored 24-hours a day to prevent icy conditions.
